ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONERS Advanced nurse practitioners are trained nurses who have undertaken additional medical education to Masters Level in order to provide advanced nursing care and prescribe medication. They can help you with many problems such as minor illness, dermatitis, allergies, high blood pressure, new onset back, hip or knee pain, diarrhoea, constipation, ear problems and repeat prescribing of contraception. They along with the practice nurse also manage long term conditions within the practice such as Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Heart disease and Warfarin management. Very often patients are aware themselves of the sort of problems that can be dealt with by a specially trained nurse. We hope that having two Advanced Nurse Practitioners available to see our patients we will be able to ease the increasing workload within primary care. Mrs Clare Millar (f)
